Judged by a panel of independent industry experts, the Builders Merchants News Awards collectively have years of experience in the builders’ merchant and wider construction industries, this means they know what’s involved in being a good builders merchant.
WINNER: Independent Builders Merchant of the Year (1-10 branches) – Chandler Material Supplies Ltd
Over the last 4 years Chandlers has embarked on a huge modernisation project, re-engineering every part of the business.
For 60 years the Company had built a tremendous reputation for customer service, with family values at its core. As Chandlers continued ro grow, it faced a massive challenge in modernising its processes across the board, whilst ensuring it kept the culture, values and ethics that had made it such a success since the 1950’s. A culmination of the success of a Computerisation Project, Website Rebuild, Marketing Strategy, Rebrand, Brand Alignment, People Strategy and Warehouse, plus Office Expansion.
The outcome of these initiatives has enhanced the customers’ experience at Chandlers, in turn helping to expedite annual sales over the last 5 years. In the same period, staff numbers have increased to 46 employees. These initiatives have clearly built a framework for a sustainable future for the business, its employees, and its customers.
” To have been shortlisted for and to then be selected as winners of the award for Independent Builders’ Merchant of the Year (1-10 branches) is a wonderful achievement for our Company, however one that wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and commitment from our terrific teams here at Chandler Material Supplies.
We know we have the best people working here giving a great customer experience, it’s absolutely brilliant to have that recognised and to be able to share the great news with everyone.
We’re looking forward to a busy and exciting year ahead for us and all of our customers as we build further on what’s been achieved so far. We mustn’t forget that without our customers there’s no need for our existence so rest assured, we’ll keep working to make sure they are at the forefront of everything we do. ” – Julie Chandler, Managing Director.
WINNER: Website & Digital Initiative of the Year Award
Instrumental in implementing a new website for the business, In May 2016, Ben Chandler led a project to deliver a new, modern site to support the business and its next generation of customers. In December 2016 the site went fully live with 2,500 products priced and available to buy online at www.chandlermaterials.co.uk . This functionality was unprecedented by a small local merchant at this time, with much bigger local and national competitors not yet offering this to their customers.
“It is absolutely clear that without Ben’s input and direction, we really would have struggled to get most of these projects off the ground, yet alone successfully implemented and concluded. The Company is now strongly positioned to re-focus on excellent customer service over the next 10 years.” – Julie Chandler, Managing Director
“We were absolutely thrilled to win the Website & Digital Initiative of the Year award. To be recognised as having the best website nationally across all Builders Merchants this year is a real honour. We put the customer at the centre of the whole design process, to try and make the site as user friendly and engaging as possible, and this award is a great recognition to everyone in the team who worked so hard on the site.” – Ben Chandler, Finance Director.
